When Shawn Simmons (founder of Integrated Design) began learning from his dad who was a mechanical engineer, he learned all the ins and outs of CAD. When he started his company he used AutoCAD to design mechanical layouts for contractors.
BIM: Building Information Modeling
We now use BIM technology that not only draws out the shop and fabrication drawings, but actually puts the pieces into the architecture. This lets us as the mechanical designers see a 3D view of how the Hangers, plumbing, electrical etc. will fit into the architectural designs.
